Paper Clay Workshop Survey
Form Comments (1999-2023)
These give you insight into your own likely workshop experience.
Comments below are predominately from my longer interstate or overseas workshops. I copy verbatim all comments, compliments and criticisms from my workshop survey forms.* This slow and laborious ritual forces me to fully digest all comments and so keep improving...
(2020-now online independent reviews (predominately from the shorter Perth workshops) appear here )

“Thank you for a wonderful weekend of paper clay . It was a fantastic experience and huge learning curve for me! I hope you enjoy G.C and manage some fun time. I look at your website often and it is an amazing source of info. Thank you for that also ! (Safe travels” unsolicited email)

"I am not sure the feedback form works for accurate responses so I am just writing a few sentences instead.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and felt like the information provided was very relevant to my personal needs. There is obviously only so much you can cover in a short time frame and you covered a lot, so well done. The materials provided and working space were also more than adequate. Your extensive knowledge and examples provided of paper clay were very informative.
Whilst it was lovely to share lunch and is always a great time for a chat, I would have much preferred to have spent the time shared over a quick sandwich break at the studio so we could have more working time. An extra hour would have been great and I would be more than happy if it was longer but cost a bit more to compensate you for this. Your communication and information provided about workshop details both before and after the workshop was very detailed and super helpful. Thank you for a great day - I’ll definitely be keen if you have any further different workshops and would love to be notified.
Thanks again and happy creating."
"The slide show not working was a bummer. A lot was lost. It would have been nice to fire or at least see something fired before at the studio using the clay options available there. I understand there were too many of us, lots to do 🙂 and I loved it. ) Also the concept aligns with what I do....more eco friendly, no glaze, pit firing...so thank you."
"... I didn't get the time to answer your questionnaire. But will say this - it has changed my clay game completely!!! You have been one of my most inspiring and motivating teachers in this field. Everything about the workshop was perfect i wouldn't change anything. The only suggestion i would give is, if you could add a firing of a few pieces maybe made by you on the first day itself! Coz people like to see results, and that boosts everyone's confidence in the technique... "

"Thank you for answering our questions along the way and we loved the way you challenged us. Additional note: Thank you again for you patience ,enthusiasm and sharing of knowledge!! I am itching to get home to play !! "
"Need to keep the group focussed, I did not enjoy playing sheep dog but get very annoyed when people are disrespectful and impinge on my ability to get best value for your time and energy. Let me know if you are ever coming to or passing through the Gold Coast, Queensland and would have time to do a demo, talk, short class. I am on the committee for Gold Coast Potters Association and we are always seeking people to expand our knowledge and practice."
"Really enjoyed the entirety of the course - thank you!"
“The workshop was well formatted and easy to follow. The processes with paper clay were well instructed and easy to understand. Questions were answered and interesting conversations were allowed to follow. I was introduced to new skills and a renewed excitement for my own paper clay practice. I wish there were more classes that advanced upon this.” + at top: “The workshop was fabulous. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills, and patiently answering all of my questions. So inspired, I am looking forward to getting back into the studio and progressing my paperclay practice. Many thanks again”
perfect score but no comments
"Thanks Graham - it was terrific fun and really helpful. (Though it really tested my brain's plasticity!)"
"Excellent workshop. I have only attended 5 other pottery workshops but many, many cake decorating workshops and this was excellent. It was initially a surprise not to be actually making some object but learning about the complexities of paper clay was far more valuable. As a kinesthetic learner actually doing and reinforcing the skills again and again with examples and fun activities was so appreciated. As an adult lecturer I so appreciated how you facilitated the group and melded us together while teaching. Plus it was great fun! "
“This was a very informative and fantastic workshop. It has changed the way I work with clay and will influence my future working so much so that my focus will be more on paper clay and what I can do with it. Thank you for such an informative and enjoyable workshop. I am only sorry I will be be at the master class as I will be overseas.” additional note: ”Answers follow and thank you again for a fabulous and informative workshop”

More time.
Great workshop. I would love to do more.
Occasionally difficult to catch all you said because you’re such a fast talker ;) Very enjoyable and informative.
Plenty of info – now to play. Thanks
One more additional guided activity
Great balance to various skill levels
You pretty well covered all that I thought of.
No! (answer to “Anything You Feel Like Adding?” after giving workshop a perfect score)
Just touches the surface, need to come back for more
Really enjoyed the experience-learnt lots. Thanks.
I think I worked out the direction I want to go with working with PC, & would likle to develop this idea further with you if possible.
Thanks had a lovely time
Thank you!
Make contact if you are keen to do a workshop or teach an intense week in Broome
2019
great day. Too short but long day!
Very informative
Good basic instructions and techniques especially for dry joining, additions, repairs to paper clay, joining soft clay to dry, soaking dry to join thicker pieces, sanding feet to level a piece
Add some more times so that we can know in depth
Been quite sufficient & informative for me
Great workshop, learnt a lot really enjoyed it
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would
For a complete novice who just wants to have a play, there was too much time spent explanations that were not needed, though extremely interesting
Great - learnt lots about paper clay
I wish I had done this course before I started the weekly sesions so helpful
Thank you really enjoyable afternoon
It was fantastic! Thanks
It was great learning the 'art' of making constructions so that when it was time to make project we had already made the mistakes. IT was useful knowing the ins and outs of technique but maybe working as it's done so we could have more hands on
Love it all :)
More such workshops please, also exhibitions that travel across continents!
Prior to workshop suggest participants think about what they might like to make and that they will make something to take away they wish
Thank you so much for the detailed discussions, information and for inspiring me to take up more of hand building
I loved this class
Would have been good to be part of a longer workshop where one can make a work
Great! I'm into it and I'll be back!!
2018
Enormously informative and generous
Fast is good for me, more is better, but lack of time, glad there is more info on your website
Wonderful - a bit of overload but guess you only take (??) in according to interest
Would have loved to hear about casting - next time
Keep an eye on the time - missed out on slip/paperclay casting
Prefer something a bit more structured but website info - great
Brilliant
Thank you for a very informative snd inspiring workshop this past weekend.
It was really great learning about paper clay and being inspired by your knowledge and creativity.
Best, (unsolicited email 1 Nov’18)
I very much enjoyed the workshop and learned a great deal. However I had difficulty understanding you, partly due to your accent but also because you generally speak very quickly, so a good part of the information I did not get. I did not want to keep asking you to repeat sentences. All in all, I really liked the class.
Because I had specific things I wanted to learn and practice, I would have enjoyed more time in studying organic form building and clay [building] and less slab work. Face-building instructing not useful for me, but seems like group appreciated it. Definitely could have used more overall time to learn and work, and perhaps more organisation and flow of material. Was confusing to learn one thing one day, and unlearn it the next - seemed a bit out of order. So very grateful for what you shared and can't wait to deepen and begin experimenting.
Good question - the answer is yes:) Actually, the head demo would have worked better earlier in workshop, when I was fresher in the brain.
Understand your style - had several advantages. Could give us a bit more info to the specific questions about technical points. We do not have years and years to do all the technical experiments - pushing us to make our own decisions about design and creative issues is very good.
It would be helpful to know the initial bits we were making at the beginning were generic and intended to be shared with everyone for teaching purposes. Also it seemed like it would be nice if there was a point in the lessons where the bits made and put in the dryer were not for everyone's use. Many of my bits were not actually for me to use because someone used them. All of them.
Just getting here has been a jump start / kick in the ass to get back to doing the thing I think about every day - paper clay :)
Very tight space, 3 days was limit as it feel stressed in closed space. I would like to have looked at videos in the evening - and throughout the day- keep it running
Would be great to add colour on to fire pieces
Great energy. Fun instruction. For me, it would have been helpful to have suggested videos/ reading prior to class. (should have looked at your website)
Hi Graham, I wanted to say a big thank you on behalf of our firm for the wonderful workshop on Friday. It is often difficult to find an activity for staff day that everyone can participate in and enjoy, but all of our staff members thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and said it was the best staff day activity we’ve done in years. Thank you again. Yours faithfully, Clare. unsolicited email 14 Aug
It was a great day and enjoyed by all. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and making everyone feel comfortable. I hope that it sparked a love of exploring the artist within for everyone: Email 15 July, 2017.
This was my first venture with the .... programme, and it was excellent. The potter Graham had some great ideas and allowed us full-on participation ... Best wishes, Fran
(email forwarded by organiser 16/10/17)
Everything went really well today. Graham was a great tutor. Could I have his e-mail address so I can thank him ... Helen
(email forwarded by organiser 16/10/17)
Graham...what a fantastic symposium! Though overwhelmed with so much valuable information, I walked away feeling that after more fully exploring the processes introduced, my art must grow. Who knows what changes it will undergo?? Appreciate your sending the info sheets. Thank you for being such a free spirit and giving facilitator!
perfect score “examples of options for beginner, expert”
Examples of doing other sculptures?
2016-17
I found that 10-4pm is actually not long enough :)
Great workshop. Loved it :)
Enjoyed
Examples of doing other sculptures
Loved it
If I was being picky, I would ask for more technique based activities. Afternoon 'playtime' was good, but I wanted to spend the time learning - I could play at home
Wish I lived down here to attend more sessions
I would like to attend your classes. Thank you for a wonderful workshop!
Bisque and firing techniques as part of workshop would be good
Great stories. Thank you. Feel primed to learn more through experimentation.
2015
I want to do another one tomorrow! :) (2 day workshops would be awesome)
I would like to attend your classes. Thank you for a wonderful workshop!
Really enjoyed that the workshop was based off student questions & interests. The group lunch is a lovely idea. Thank you!
None. It was informative, but not too dry. Covered many aspects of paperclay.
Map on arrival [to clay studio at venue would help]
Lots of information and ideas and very helpful (anonymous).
Thanks for introducing me to paperclay
“not sure” demos too short. “Difficult for me to answer some questions because I had a previous workshop in paperclay.”
Then unsolicated email 2 days later : “Correction to my workshop review - - On the review form, I said demonstrations were "too few or perfect; I was not sure". Later, I recalled that you made a sculptural piece and that I had forgotten to watch you work. Producing a sculpture in the workshop, the way you did, gave participants an option. A person could watch you work or work on their own. This is the perfect solution and balance. Would not want you to change anything; it was perfect."
Best wishes,F
I am writing to formally thank you for arranging the pottery class at our recent... Corporate Office Offsite 2015. I know from direct feedback that the participants really enjoyed this season. ice again, thanks for helping make our event such a success. Letter 5 may 2015
It was very interactive it was perfect for a progressing medium in the U.S.
(I'm not a complainer) It was wounderful! Thanks for everything Graham.
Demo, instruction, whole workshop too short. Info given perfect:” just want more!” “Enjoyed the differing pace throughout – The upside down studio was kind of distracting, but Ok, Enjoyed much!”
Perfect score except. No mark on talk, instruction info. “I enjoyed the workshop...loved the exploration with clay and your demos. Thank you.”
perfect score no comment
Perfect score, “Maybe just point people to the articles & Books on your website w/o going through each.”
Perfect score “The workshop was everything I hoped!! I plan to incorporate paper clay slip & more Alterations into my work, and I may play more with paper clay to keep me loose! THANKS”
Email 2 months after event: I am so glad I attended your workshop. My head was spinning with all the great info. ...{then technical questions]
All very good. Lots to absorb. Just what I wanted/needed / didn't know that I needed.
would like to have had more time to play :)
Good to hear all the side info so that we could see different avenues for experimenting & results of other experiences.
An extra half hour or so to allow for drying would make a huge difference.
It was Great! Baking on the spot would have been even better.
It was overall good. I found the instructions & demonstration was done well.
LOVED IT smiley face
Had a fantastic week with @GrahamHayArt our student were learning some new tricks. (Twitter)
@GrahamHayArt fantastic workshops with our artist in residence Graham Hay. (Twitter)
Loved learning about you and your work. Would be nice to see more of this. Thank you :)
Really enjoyed the class
Thank you, very enjoyable and informative workshop.
Thanks it was great fun.
I know from direct feedback that the participants really enjoyed the season.(letter fro organiser)

worthwhile day, thanks
Need a bit more time to finish project
2014
Need longer time – 1 wk. Thank you.
Perfect score except play time too short.
Just thank you for coming – great workshop. Hope my work moves on.
perfect score. No comments
Thank you for a wonderful weekend-such fun & eager to put into practice!
O M G !
ALL GOOD -JUST THE START – FEEL I NEED MUCH MORE INSTRUCTION & WORK TIME
This was one of the best of many inspiring workshops I have attended. Thank you Graham.
Was all wonderful sorry I missed first day
Really enjoyed the class. Learnt how to form a head.
Very Good. Good fun & Relaxing.
Probably a bit more info before the session to know what to expect.
A lot of information to absorb in 1 setting
Mind boggling, I will practice at home.
Perfect score except demonstrations and instruction too short, and instruction too basic.
Enjoyed
great! Love your -make mistakes first-teaching style.
one more day would have been better-2 days a bit rushed
Perfect score, no comment.
2013
Good range of exercises-catering for all/different needs / skill level
Fantastic time. So many possibilities. I will try them all. Thank you.
Very interesting. Show (so we can copy).
Difficult to cover a medium with such wide + varied applications in 2 Days -did well." (Editor: was a four, half day workshop.)
Want more! Sometimes would like to be told the right way to do something rather than always finding out by testing / experimenting.
It was fantastic. Wish it was longer.
For a beginner / recreation learner, perhaps suggest a starting project to get the creative juices flowing.
some inspiring background music (music notes) more detail on the list of what to bring eg. Big sponge. Thanks I really enjoyed myself and forgot about the various stresses in my Life. (smilely face)
Great fun. Relaxed atmosphere. Entertaining.
Clear communication, enjoyable atmosphere, accomplished artist.
too long with the blocks I think
Inspiration works.
Really enjoyed. Would love more!
Time allocated to various excercises needs to be better planned out and stuck to. Students need to be given a better idea of class structure & what they're expected to learn.
Start with demonstrations earlier. Also some basic clay techniques like face shapes, rolling etc would be useful.
I need some information in advance of the course and the course as I had no idea I needed to bring anything.
2011-12
EXCELLENT!!
"I'm sure only for me as a beginner. I would have liked a bit more instruction on the first day.
Outstanding class. I am looking to apply some of these techniques to my work.
More playtime.
4 day would be good for more info, demo at first then playtime, so much to cover. Enjoyed it and was great. Could have taken more. Always more (face with tongue out) Great job and tons of info for 2 days,. Loved it.
I like how you showed your work and then demo'd how to do it and why it works. Loved yesterday and the experiments! Wood have loved to play more with the wool.
Couldn't always hear because of fans & distance,
Great Job.
it felt really rushed. I felt really cramped wi table space, move tables, work area. Very interesting info. Great enthusiasm & interesting anedotes.
Great that you gave us a lot of techniques & ideas to try + experiment with later.Would like to follow your work with the 3D printer.
I think it was great, of course there is never enough time, but maybe allow more time on second day to play w/ dry pieces we made the day before. I would recommend showing the 120 paperclay pieces in one min the first day so we can get better ideas about the possibilities-very inspiring!
I wish that we had had more time to make stuff & experiment on day two – I can go through the website at home.
Would have enjoyed more. Thank you I reallly enjoyed it!(at bottom)
It's good that class can be customised to suit students
More time to enjoy modeling the clay.
Great session thank you.
Had a great time
The best workshop I have done so far at FAC. Thanks!
Later contacted venue requesting I contact her regarding permission to use my handout.
Early info aimed more at art practitioner, maybe not teacher. Time constraint
Because all the other students were teachers, this workshop was directed at them which I found quiet boring.
Well balanced- the time flew by – thoroughly engaging.
2 days would be great.
"Enjoyed the workshop A LOT. Learnt lots of tips & techniques to pass onto my primary school classes. Thanks Graham! I'll visit your website!
Wonderful experience would have loved to stay longer Thank you.
Brain dead at minute... would love to do/complete a 2 day wkshop with 1 main piece...excellent fun – thanks Graham.
Excellent introduction to paperclay
"would have liked to have done some dipping
Perfect score Anything you feel like adding? Nope
visited Studio Sat before workshop, very enjoyable workshop.
Make it 3 days, longer?
this WAS A WONDERFUL WORKSHOP!!! PACING WAS GOOD AND I FEEL AS though THERE WERE SO MANY GIFTS! I AM A PAPER Clay CONVERT. AND I WILL RECOMMEND to ALL. WOULD EVEN like A LONGER WORKSHOP (Smiley face) (mostly written in capitals)
you really challenged us beyond outside the box – thank you for being part of my journey for last 10 years & this weekend
No scoring, but comment: too much website info, demos, instruction, play (large font> – GREAT. Good Time – Thanks – Nancy
The two day was great, one week would be awesome
More Days Bottom of page Thank You so much!!!
maybe a little(underlined) long on website navigation Next to Was it good for you? was in larger fontYes! Thanks, it was a pleasure to get to know you
I wanted to see more tisurative demonstrations next time. I really like how you did the eyes
First day AM talk too long. Thanks so much! This was very informative and helpful
I need more than a 2 day workshop
I wish it (workshop were longer – 3 or more days. I like working with others – VERY challenging. After Was it good for you? wrote yes. You?
Thank you for being here & playing with us (love heart x 6)
"[The information sheet was too basic] but website pounds awesome. [I] wish to incorporate clay into my current sculptures. Than you-G"
"I've been wanting a chance to work with paper clay "under guidance" and this was the perfect opportunity"
"I would like to do a workshop taking up the whole week either full time or all am's or all pm's."
"I feel the class could have been more time-as in more days as there wasn't a lot of time to finish things. (did 3 x1/2 days )
"Great fun & freeing experience"
Very interesting, thanks for the demonstration, information & Help!
Yes, V.G.. W/shop caters well for range of experiences-always a challenge-This aspect especially well done I thought.
"Excellent workshop & fun."
2009-10
very enjoyable workshop.
Fabulous workshop-wounderful to have knowledge about all these great techniques. Fun!!
Maybe need an extra ½ for casting.
3 day workshop? Project for group participation?
Great! :) Thanks.
Excellent start for the paperclay novice. Thank you.
Had fun!
picture of heart
a fantastic, informative and fun filled day
gave me knowledge-exactly what I wanted
was extremely useful in terms of learning a wide range of skills
just felt I would like more play time on each project
Thank you. :)
maybe at the beginning you could write on the board the structure of the workshop, ie 10->12 lecture, activity. 12 to 12:30 lunch, etc & how long to spend on activities. Excellent information, maybe a little too much time spent questioning class on basic information when you're looking for a specific answer...Maybe a question time for students to quiz you...? Overall a fantastic & valuable wkshp. I'm a convert! :)
Would like to have made a specific piece. Would like to fire. Just a little bit too long but great info. Thank you.
Another day would've been great!
A perfect afternoon-thank-you. Smiley face
Could do more but good intro
Fabulous workshop - wonderful to have knowledge about all these great techniques. Fun!!
Great workshop -much info – ideas – inspiration – as soon as I catch up a bit I'm going to try more -
Great workshop-You are a great presenter
I think it was hard for both demonstrators to go back & forth between classes. Better to go 1 ½ days straight.
Maybe need an extra ½ for casting.
More time to enjoy modelling the clay.
Perfect. Fabulous. Revelation-Inspiring.
slides were a little hard to see because room wasn't dark enough-great workshop-
Still so much to learn! Could be longer but absorption at its peak!
. Thanks! Don't change anything!
Thank you so much for coming to Phoenix to do the workshop.
I have caught the paper clay bug. The possibilities with this clay are endless. I really enjoyed your demonstrations and great lessons that you taught that I can teach my students. (email: 21/04/2008 12:18 PM)
your lessons are so, wonderful that I can take it to my classroom and teach my students.
3 day workshop? Project for group participation?
A really great workshop. Thoroughly enjoyed it :)
Could be good over a few weekends, but the ongoing workshops would be perfect.
DVD for sale wd be great
Enjoyable and I will carry on Perfect score except whole workshop too short(1 day): David.thoroughly enjoyed it-wet my appetite!!
Fantastic, Fun + imaginative. Really enjoyed it, Thank you!
Felt that for the short time given, what you covered was very well done. Thank you very much!
Force drying + firing would be nice to do or see done. I know there were time and weather conditions that prevent these.
Future workshops would be great to cover more info.
Good stuff-I wish there was more time.
Great Workshop, lots of creative ideas
Had a great time
I felt.... but did enjoy it very much
I would have liked more attention to technique & to concepts of both building up paperclay & more unusual approaches to it (installation work). More time for discussion & problem solving.please come do a workshop in CA
It's hard to ignore off topics questions but it would help give more info on topic
Loved it but it might have been better having each instructor for 1 ½ days straight. This felt a little disjointed.
Loved it!
Maybe 2 ½ days? Split
My head is full!
need more time
No. Excellent presentation
perhaps you could limit people's interruption of your thoughts & presentations.
Really enjoyed Sunday Q & A – You were very accessible and willing to answer any + all questions – Thank you! Too many supplies hauling to conf. That we didn't use simplify needs list interested in workshop in Feb 2010
Really great. So much information given but more to learn. Longer format workshop would probably be better for me.
Talking about somethings which wasn't interesting. Class as a whole for too long – otherwise good.-I could be just a bit sensitive with my neck! ;)
Thank you I am inspired!
Thanks for the great workshop. I had a repair job to do when I got home as the head fell on its face and she looked more like a Pekinese dog and the man lost his hand. But you've taught us how to repair and deal with problems which is obviously very useful as we're more likely to have problems than instant successes.email: Sunday, 5 July, 2009 5:29:43
Thanks
Thankx
The information was totally inspiring. As a new person to paper clay I need a lot more time. Wish we had spent 1 ½ days with each instructor rather than ½ days-better continuity.Great workshop, Graham Thank you.
The instructions were great and the examples (projected) illustrated the points
The Sunday interaction question & answer period was really great! The mixture of visuals & handout was great. More time would have been helpful. But overall, watching the demo was inspiring.
Too much time building towers. I really liked the figures & face and would have liked more time on these.
Very enjoyable & learnt enough to go on with for a while
very enjoyable workshop.
Very enjoyable. Felt the creative juices flowing. Inspirational.
We spent just a little too long (20 minutes) looking at examples of work on the website
Would be good to have time for more free-form expression
Would have liked head shaping / figure shaping for most of the day.
Would have preferred 1 ½ day with Graham then 1 ½ day with Rosette or vice versa-too many repeat questions from participants.
Would have preferred longer time & less hurried presentations. Less changing rooms & maybe 6-8 hr per season. Thanks for a fun class (tick)
Wonderful experience would have loved to stay longer Thank you.
You know-I feel as if I have been in a complete Clay Paradiam Shift. Bit more hands on. And I loved the extra hand building Tips.
A hot of questions answered -very exciting potential for my work
A real life artisan, stimulating teacherPedagog. Far, far exceeded any expectations/limited experience-Kick starts my life direction from today! Thank ,Thank you!
E-mail me about the eyeballs
Email eyeballs and all thoroughly enjoyed your class
Nada -oh the cost of materials should be built into the course costs.
Email me about the eyeballs .Very entertaining +Fun .Great to meet you.
enjoyed the workshop immensely
Fantastic ,gained more than I knew possible about paper clay/ construction
Hope you can come back to Queensland again for a longer workshop
More actual 'Doing' would have been more better. Email me about eye Balls
Practical work e-mail me about the eyeballs please
Thank you for brilliant workshop in every way!
Well done! Enjoyed it. Helped enormously.
Would have been great to do some glazing too.
Would have linked more hands on
After perfect score. Above ticks apply to time available – All great to give idea of what we can do.
maybe shorten The intro a little (e.g. your website) and get started earlier. The(n) show more website after lunch?
Email 23/6/10 Hi Graham, ...Overall everyone enjoyed the paperclay workshop, leaving quite a few wanting more. Excellent outcome.Thanking you again for the contribution you have made towards Castaways's success.…
Email 31/3/09 Yes, things have calmed down but I am a bit shattered from the day. It is a big responsibility co-ordinating such big number of boys, parents and teachers together on a project that is really my vision. The results are very encouraging and I know there will be lots of excited discussions going on over the dinner tables tonight. Not the usual... So how was your day at school? Boring, we did nothing much! Thank you for your expertise and lovely, gentle manner working with the boys and I will be endeavouring to play more and get those kids thinking and making mistakes BEFORE we do the planning !
Enjoyed paperclay – achieved my aim to reintroduce my desire for ceramic works / clay work / sculpture
Excellent fun & a good learning day
I Believe, one day is not long enough for play time
I've been working in paper-clay for 90% of my ceramic and mixed media works since the mid 1990's. ..... Talk, demo, instruction, & whole workshop too short.workshop setting (lack of space to work, poor internet connection) was basic. Your presentation was excellent-not too fast for me-liked all examples-ideas-then examples on website, demo, could use more demo.
I've had a most enjoyable 2 days,I am always interested in new ways with clay
I've used paperclay often over the years so I'd like to be surprised by something I haven't thought of. Talk and whole workshop too short otherwise perfect workshop Total satisfied. I'd like to see links to throwing (on the wheel) paperclay if you find any. If I'm successful I'll report back to you
Love the unconventional approaches. Thanks!
love to be a practising artist
$30 rather too much extra on cost of workshop for material supplied.
Perfect score Anything you feel like adding?Nope
Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge and experience
A very belated thanks for your very lovely time with us here at Tranby. The students have really enjoyed showing their parents their work at our Learning Journey today. Just wanted you to know that there has been a definite glow in the art room since your visit! Trust all is well with you. (email 3/09/2009 3:43:15)

I am still thinking about the paperclay workshop, and with great relish, because I will be spending several days and nights at Artifacts studio where this workshop was held while its wonderful owner gets a new hip. (A new hip!!!!). Several years ago, I "rescued" a dozen or so desiccated 25 pound blocks of clay from a condemned studio building. It has sat in my studio awaiting further purpose, and now 100 lbs of it is slaking in buckets at the Artifacts Studio so that it can become paperclay, and I can play with it while studio sitting. Graham Hay did outrageous things with the paperclay. He dipped hot dog buns into it to make little building blocks, he ran yards and yards of yarn through slip creating sticks of it, he flung 25 pound slabs like huge frisbees onto the top of buckets to make bowls. This, believe me, is MY kind of clay work. I had stopped doing it for several years, but next week, I am going to have a grand no-mind wallow in paperclay slip. Zeus (the studio dog), the happiest dog in the world and I are going to go for it. What a dream! POSTED BY AMIE AT 4/27/2008
Hi Graham, I am having so much fun playing with paper clay. I really learned from and enjoyed the experience. If you ever get out this way again, please let me know. Thanks again for all you knowledge and help. (Email:28/04/2008 7:42 AM)
Hi Graham, ..Thanks again for a Wonderful workshop!(email: 21/04/2008 12:36 PM)
Wonderful workshop! (anonymous workshop survey form 22/04/2008)
This wked. Graham had a wealth of information & allowed for our questions to structure the day. This he worked into & around our level of background. (anonymous workshop survey form 22/04/2008)
Thank you for a wonderful, excellent & fun workshop! It is easy to learn and remember your manner of teaching and demonstration. Paperclay (and more ways to recycle) are high on my list!(note: April 12, 2008)
Hi Graham, Great time making me get out of my comfort zone! (email: 21/04/2008 7:01 PM)
It was great to meet you. Had an awesome time at the workshop. This was a first for me and paper clay. I have called around to clay suppliers in my area and no one has it. I did talk to a clay supplier and he told me he will check on getting paper clay. I will be watching for your workshops in the future. (email 21/04/2008 3:52 PM)
Thanks for the enjoyable and informative workshop...Looking forward to see the pics. (Email: 21/04/2008 12:20 PM)

My name is A.H. and a Cleveland resident my whole life. I never heard of Paper Clay as I have only done slip casting. It has been a fun and very enlightening as I now going to try to master paperclay. It has been an honour meeting you. Good luck alway. A. April 08 (handwritten note )
Hey Graham! Many thanks for a great paperclay workshop. It was really worth my time and travel. Enjoyed every minute of it & I leant a lot. RR(handwritten note 13/4/08)
Dear graham-thank you for inspiring me to new heights! It was a stimulating workshop and you gave new meaning to spaghetti! I will look at food differently from now on! Warm wishes, LS (handwritten note 12/4/08)
Graham, Great workshop! DMB(handwritten note 13/4/08)
Graham,
I can't even begin to imagine the havoc you've visited upon those with traditional clay training as I am still quite close to thunderstruck myself. In fact, my kids clearly think I've finally gone round the bend because I broke out in laughter at dinner this eve for no apparent reason when I thought of how the L. Clay artists would've received such a bombardment (and they are quite sure that I am crazy).
You are an excellent teacher, one of a rare breed of teaching-artists who knows that creativity is essential in every aspect of life. If there is anything more I have a deep regard for it would be this: That you have the essential grasp of the principal that the teacher is ever the student (or Grace, if you prefer.) It is a tremendous gift that you give, and for that there is no adequate way to say Thank You. (DS email: 14/4/08)
I know L. ahs been in touch with you but I wanted to also write in and say a big thank you for coming to CAC and presenting a fabulous workshop for all the attendees. It was so informative and everyone is talking about still !(AK email: 12/4/08)
Graham - thank you so much for all your hard work over the weekend as well as your enthusiasm and willingness to help, explain and encourage. It was truly a great experience. I learned a lot - much of which I may actually retain! Again, thanks. (CL email 14/4/08)
Very informative & enjoyable.BK
Yes, V.G.. W/sh0p caters well for range of experiences-always a challenge-This aspect especially well done I thought.PL
Thanx! TW
2007
The paper clay class was brilliant. Graham Hay is a truly generous tutor and a genuinely lovely person. He was extremely giving and amazingly knowledgeable about every aspect of his art. No ego intruded into his teaching style, he responded positively to all questions and was very patient with people at different levels of experience.

Would have liked a whole weekend (2 Days) GB
How to get involved with others working with paperclay MdH
I'm almost a convert. Did a previous (paperclay) workshop-with figurative styled work, but this has opened up greater possibilities. NL
Where is the next workshop JL
Very interesting and exciting and will start to use it a-s-a-p (firing was a bit sl????) IZ-B
Many thanks Graham. It was a great workshop. You were very generous with information and materials. FA
a very enjoyable day. Thank you. AF
Thanks! KD
A truly fantastic and challenging workshop, very tiring too, thank you so much. BK
Thanks for giving so much of yourself & ideas Graham. MS
Fantastic workshop. CL
Thank you for a well balanced workshop of information, talks and playtime. You may well convert me. HF
This-for me-is the best workshop I have attended: We as a club needed to s-t-r-e-t-c-h! Thank You so much. JS
As a learner I would have preferred more guided practical work to ensure each basic-essential step was understood before going out solo & experimenting. AW
The Broad Spectrum of Paper Clay is great, to me a hand builder. JK
Thank you Graham. Great inspirational I'll have a go! JD
As I was already using paperclay this workshop gave me more information & techniques for further developments. JE
Workshop needs more heat. SG
Perhaps more time on one idea-intro one techniques & then play - wasn't enough time to play with one idea - move on & then I'd forget previous idea. Quiet possibly give up ordinary clay-no never! BH
would have minded some more step-by-step instruction handouts-website is a great resource. JL
Great workshop, Graham. You have shown me an exciting new medium. I won't give up ordinary clay but will incorporate it in my craft - greater scope & possibilities. IS
Would love to have had extra time to make a 2nd thing. EF
Very interesting, wish I had more time. AR
Thank you Graham- Will be great to explore more ideas. FC
3 months later email I took your workshop in Phoenix,Az. USA at the end of March this year. First I must say it was fabulous ! I returned to my pottery guild in Colorado and shared the information I received from you and now most of us are converts to paper clay. Thank you so much! LD
This was an awesome experience and I will be able to apply this to what I am currently doing. Yeah! AW
Thank you! CT
I enjoyed taking photos for you. Hope they come out well KP
Great! Great! LT
Your website & the digital camera images from the workshop will be very helpful. The workshop was Awesome! Thanks. SR
I wish I would have bought my sister AL
Lots of info to digest Wow! Enjoyed it very much. BD
I'm even more convinced of its appropriateness for my sculpture class in High School. BS
Really LEARNED A LOT- thank you for sharing! The best!! CC
It was a pleasure meeting you Graham, CK
no comments or name, but perfect score
very very fun, informative entertaining-Thaks (smiley face) CBD
This was just exactly what I needed at just the right time, in my life. It's a brand new day. CR
This workshop did what I needed-made me think out of the box more in a very abstract way-which is what I was looking for. JH
I just made 2 large pieces out of paperclay & loved it. This workshop really gave me techniques & ideas & continue my work. Thanks! LD
THANK you(:)) I've felt so limited as an artist because I don't own a kiln-Can't WAIT TO PLAY MORE! NH
Thank you! Great workshop!SG
Very excited SM
Great afternoon (no name)
Would love to have had extra time to make a 2nd thing(EF)
What a wonderful experience: creative alive and exciting, not to mention informative. Thanks so much! Thank you Subsequent email: thanks again for a phenomenal weekend: clay never felt so liberating before! JS
[perfect score but no comment on evaluation sheet]. Later letter: It's Monday morning and I'm still a little dizzy from the workshop-a LOT of information! Thanks for a great presentation. I'm sorry to miss your talk at NCECA. Good luck! EM
What an inspiration! My head is so full. Would like to discuss workshop next year at our local. NP
What a wonderful experience. You've opened up a whole new world. KN
Very informative workshop. Thanks for the hard work. ML
Perhaps a few minutes could be used in the beginning for attendees to introduce themselves-we didn't know each other (Smilie face). Great workshopBU
[letter]Dear Graham, For many years my mind has been dormant for creativity...-this past weekend you have re-lit the cells of my creativity parts of my brain, again I am looking forward to applying all your wonderful techniques & experience the new wonders of paperclay in my craft. K
[letter] Graham, Thanks for being interrupted by the Clay Nazi-No fun for you! You've been a great inspiration & a wonderful person to talk to... AN
Posted comments 23/5/07 (2 months later) The list of equipment to bring was way too long. We never used any of it! Pain in the Ass. Too much time spent making little pieces to dry on stove never got back to using them-didn't know what they were for so didn't make useful stuff to use. Better to tell us to make assigned parts, give time to use them. we ca be creative on our own time. We ere here to learn a new material and new techniques. Graham - You put a lot of work into this Workshop, so I'm taking time to tell you my truth of how it was for me. Thank you for a very enlightening experience and the pleasure of your company. You are obviously a master at this and had vast stores of useful and exciting information for us, but I feel, some presentation techniques squandered those riches. Why those crazy curly sticks to put together? The issue became physics rather than look-what-paperclay-can-do. If we'd put together a box, then added feet, and handles (for example) it would have taught me, at least, much more than hours balancing crazy rods and making weird do dads we never used. Four boxes (or something) would be even better. Practice / learn. Your work, and seeing slides of it, was very inspiring. (Beautiful, original stuff.) That told us what was possible. We needed more hands-on-basic this-is-how-it-works-and-feels. I think this stuff maybe great for my work but didn't have a chance to find out! For those of us, like me who have shows coming up and need to keep producing, the time to experiment with paperclay remains a dream. Wish I had had more basic hands-on practice with your tutelage available. Loved the eyeball/nose/ear demo! So, how was this critique for you? PG
This has changed the way I think about clay-can't wait to get back to work. Subsequent email: I have received no less than 10 e-mails from the participants of the NJ workshop telling me that it yours was the best workshop they have ever attended. We all truly benefitted from the weekend and are really grateful to you for helping us think about mud in a totally different light.PF
I wish there was a higher mark than perfect because you would get it from me. PC
Your perfect but I'm not so I will really appreciate being able to get the CD (thanks to Pat F. too!) JV
A little more on on one while the students work SB-B
want to experiment with regular clay throwing & pclay additions CL
Incredibly valuable experience-lots of ideas to try GD
Thank you Graham. There have been some frustrations yet at the same time it has been a great learning experience PF
I would like a basic information sheet with slip recipe etc on it so I don’t have to search through DVD SW
It would be good for demonstrations and slides to have a predetermined time each day so own work can be planned around them. Demos to go a little slower to allow time for absorbing information. JS
I learnt other techniques for pottery / clay in general beyond paperclay specific Graham is exceptional at presenting & teaching & a great character-really a lot of fun! Although more time is always a good time, knowing & meeting people-so much info!! Now I can go home & conceptualise projects! It would have been to have quieter jets & traffic! Many thanks to Barbara Brown for being such an excellent host! (No name provided)
Fantastic workshop!! [handwritten note]Hi Graham, Thank you for being such an inspiration to me. It's great to finally meet you at the workshop. AF
Very energetic, got in LOTS of info. Can't get better than 9-5. Clay Planet is good to have us & it's easy shopping for more clay for example.
DO SOME MORE FUNCTIONAL PIECES DO ONE IN SACRAMENTO & I WILL COME AGAIN. TOO COLD!!! EXCELENT WORKSHOP!! DF
It would be nice to have a one page summary, or even a list, (even on the website) of all the techniques he taught us. 2 whole days ARE needed, but tough to get away, w/o missing. Maybe a little more table space. Loved this-Graham is so great a teacher-so much to learn, so little a brain. [smilie face] Hand written letter: Dear Graham, What a wonderful opportunity to meet you! and get a taste of this amazing paper clay process. My 3 Portuguese Water Dogs, my husband and my winter-wasted yard don't understand why I'd rather be here. I've been playing around w/paper clay for +/- 6 months & this has been an eye opener! You're right, this going to totally change me. Thanks so much. ER
Graham Hay. Thank you to G.H for coming! Incredibly informative…great artist..very stimulating-great workshop! JL
Would have liked a slower pace. Graham is so full of ideas-can't keep up with him Thank goodness a lot of this is on his website LK
Graham is a fountain of knowledge. I especially liked his slideshows-mention any idea & he can show you someone whose work might interest you. Amazing. Too short, but necessary SG
So MANY great ideas & techniques that it made my head spin! Engaging personality, enthusiasm & sense of experimentation, surprises, mysterious ingredients in the slip-such as Shrimp Salad! We REALLY ROOM-and access to the OUTDOORS as well as MICROWAVE & FRID. Clay Plant has it all. SW
I like the slideshow in the work room so we can keep working. 1st day; we spent about 2-2 1/2 hours making parts for Sunday. My table mate & I made far more pieces than we could use. I'd rather had more time to play first day. (no name provided)
I found not having knowledge of paperclay a bit difficult at first however over time the experience was just fabulous. I enjoyed the experience of something different. Best of luck on your USA Trip. PV
2006
I need more time!!!AR
Really enjoyed the day. I thank you for your generous giving of information.EM
Would be useful to have sample pieces in the flesh-just little ones - of all the technique-rather than the slide show. I had a good look at various websites before coming. Thank you -the workshop was really inspiring.OW
Working in paper clay has been an absolute delight! I got to explore a completely different clay body. It’s an easy, feasible, and liberal material to work with. There’s so much one can do in paper clay. Sky’s the limit! Thanks Mr. Hay! MN
No matter how many books you may read on paper clay, you can’t get the feel of the medium unless you work in it. That’s when you start exploring the many possibilities. The one thing that really appealed to me was that in paperclay don’t have to worry about being unable to work when it’s dry. Also, unlike other clay bodies it has greater strength… SS
To work in paper clay was really challenging, not only it became possible for me to portray my ideas in clay, but also I’ve learnt a lot of techniques about how to use this material. One of my works is titled nature. I feel the initial stages of my work are more influenced by it. Paper clay has its on qualities and possibilities, which makes it a complete material for a ceramist. The most convenient aspect of paper clay is that, it can be joined in dry state, which proved to be very helpful in my work.SS
I heard about a workshop in ceramics about Paper Clay, it fascinated me a lot. I was surprised to see Graham Hay’s work, when I saw his website. At the workshop watching him work was a unique experience. He explains the possibilities of the medium and then lets his students explore. I found him interested in circles and curves, looks like he’s the master of using shapes. As a whole I’ve learnt many new things and this includes all the work he showed us in slide shows, Graham at work, his technique, experimentation. AM
Working in paper clay was just like looking in clay in a whole new perspective and a new world of creation altogether. Paper clay was good to work with; the best part being the fact that it was recyclable, mend able, and even just the slip can be used to construct forms. Some of the few things that I found difficult were that rather than the regular clay paper was and impurity to clay so its elasticity seemed to affected. On the whole it was a diverse experience. QZ
Working with paper clay made me experiment all those forms that I was ever scared of attempting. It involves more of experimentation and allowed me to go wild with my imagination in a way I was no more afraid of crack, as I could always fill them up at any stage. Its not a must to build the form in one go. Small units can be built and later joined to make a large scale sculpture. We could actually use various combustible materials as our armature such as leaves wooden piece, paper cuttings, wool and cotton by dipping in clay.HTL
Initially, I had an experience with the paper clay but this time it was easier and quite a lot of fun working with the new recipe. Large-scale sculptures and different forms are easier to handle and even cracks and breakages can be cured at any stage easily. Quick drying and dry-to-dry joining are a lot easier in it. Paper clay expands the boundaries amazingly. The last three weeks I have spent on exploring this new medium were mind opening working at solutions for problems in handling the forms. MK
My experience was very pleasurable and refreshing. I’ve learnt new ways of working with clay. Had never thought of using this medium in such different techniques. Although I found it very difficult in the beginning but very soon got the hang of it. It helped me in broadening my vision and improving my skills. This workshop gave me independence of thought, which will further help me with innovative techniques and make projects interesting. We got a chance to interact with Mr. Hay. If I were given another chance to join the workshop, I‘d not give a second thought! RS
My perception of clay has changed completely. The paper-clay workshop was a complete eye-opener to me. I have been dabbling in pottery for the past eight years but I have never felt as much in control as I do now. Being able to work in both the plastic and dry form demands more creativity and pre-planning, and execution is much more exciting and rewarding as you can do twice as much work in half the time. This freedom is, in itself, a very enriching experience. AJ
The body of work produced during this month does not follow any single theme; it’s more about experimenting and stretching an new material to the limits. Looking at formal solutions, possibilities with very thin clay work, and dry joining has interested me the most. To me it is kind of an artistic liberation, from the way I used to approach this diverse medium, and eventually the way I connect to the work that is born. I have used paper clay slip for dipping/spraying textile materials and pieces of baby clothes to make delicate assembled works, conical forms and hanging sculptural pieces.SM (Ceramic Lecturer)
Working in paperclay is very interesting. It has its own language and behaviour. Initially I found it difficult to understand the character and nature of the clay but then I enjoyed its challenging characteristics. All of us have done a lot of unbelievable experiments in it. Now we can make the things, which we thought were impossible. Paperclay also has its own world of texture and feel. NN (Ceramic Lecturer)
The entire process of working in paperclay is a series of challenges and surprises. Every stage in the process from preparing and understanding the material, to making the piece in entirely a new direction, to firing it, has its own constraints and rhythm. This makes the process much more interesting and boosts our energies to explore more in such a magical method. Now, we don’t have to worry about the rapid drying of clay because unlike other clays, it works much better in dry form. My pieces are a general exploration of the material and its many possibilities.JA
paperclay is/was new to me and I have thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. Thank you very much indeed.
a fun & enjoyable class.
A revolution indeed
could have spent more time on own work, mad rush to get things ready for firing
Some how it would have been great to have more time to do own work + use the skills taught-but not sure where you'd find the extra time.
Thank you Graham, it was everything I wanted and so much more. I'm leaving excited & can't wait to get into it with my friends, students & by myself.
2005
Will be doing more figurative work in future
I'm very happy with two days but really I need to follow up with more contact with people who do paperclay. Thank you for the taste.
Interesting-glad I have done pottery first.
Good workshop, GREAT TUTOR (her emphasis). Excellent fun! :)
Exciting medium presented by an exciting, talented artist of note.
Fantastic workshop.
Lovely workshop took me back to my student time.

Thank you Graham you inspired me and gave my pottery journey new life.
Thanks for many inspiring ideas.
Useful for own work and 4 teaching, use in cerm & sculpture. Thanks Graham for all your ideas, energy & enthusiasm & generosity, lots of food for thought.
We are all destined to be butterflies, but the true teacher saves us time, with our gratitude and love.
Loved the slideshows. They were good inspiration. Demonstrations were practical and informative and easy to understand-thanks. Could advise participants to bring own stool they are comfortable working on.
Can see myself investigating further
Absolutely mind-blowing - like the freedom in it. Excellent teaching skills. Many Thanks.
Your generosity was greatly appreciated. Hearing about your professional working life was beneficial. Your expertise with computer/camera etc has motivated me to learn more.2 weeks wasn't long enough! My project was big!
I particularly enjoyed seeing the range of images on your laptop. This was particularly valuable. Also it is better to know about the website to gain more information, than taking home lots of pages of notes
Was nice to have the option in 2nd week not to have to take the life model part. I could have played more if I had not gone to slideshow & concerts-but felt less burned out this year than others when I did spend afternoons in studio.
Light, fun, revolutionary informative, innovative, wonderfully 2005 irriverant allowing for new inroads in artCourse I would have loved 3 weeks. Getting into my stride. Huge internet website. Thanks Graham I'm exhilarated in my new life
Great course!
This workshop has been of great benefit to me for my future work
2004
To learn from the Paper Clay Master was a definite treat. I might do a workshop again. I have been reading paperclay since Dec 01 & was NOT disappointed & will be working with it at home. Thank you.
Perhaps I should have made a smaller piece so I could have had more time with paperclay, but very happy with the final result
It was great to be using clay again (20 years!!) & to be able to take so many liberties with paperclay
It was a great workshop that I would definitively recommend to others. Thanks Graham.
Great fun, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by all of this!
20 years too late for me (85)
like a bit more info on the class notes because it is very hard to take notes during this very hands on workshop-otherwise had a great time. Thank you!
Thanks so enjoyable meeting you & finding out SO MUCH about this amazing medium
An enthusiastic, friendly and creatively challenging workshop. Many thanks for your patience. It has got me thinking
exciting medium presented by an exciting, talented artist of note.
I make it and use it sometime, depending on how my project finishes.
Lovely workshop took me back to my student time
So well prepared and presented-enjoyed it tremendously
Very informative and fun workshop
Thank you for allowing us to express ourselves-great w/shop
I've been wanting a chance to work with paper clay under guidance and this was the perfect opportunity
A very enjoyable day with lots of ideas and information
Class could be longer duration.
Great fun & freeing experience
Thank you Graham for being an inspiring teacher. You inspired me to try a new medium and though I shall not stay with it I am taking away some invaluable lessons which will stay with me. Kindest regards
Fantastic-really enjoyed the workshop. Feel inspired to experiment!
Very interesting, thanks for the demonstration, information & Help!
The level at which you instructed was perfect for the range of ages
Fantastic workshop
Nope. Perfect!
2003
A great way to learn about paperclay & appreciate its usefulness for art at school in the future.
It really broadened my mind & expectations about clay. Thanks Graham (smiley face here)
Wish I had more time to play (one day workshop).
Well explained. Lots to take in.
I learnt enough to keep me experimenting for a long time and already working out ideas.
very beneficial.
Sorry I had only the one day. It was great.
Paperclay has certain properties that seem to be more suitable for younger children, activity was very good and success was achieved by all.
Wow- I think paperclay has many applications & I hope to use it again- very versatile
Thank you! The highlight of my year in pottery!
It has made me want to start using paperclay products instead of clay. The workshop was very interesting and fun for the students. It was great to have in a country area experienced Arts specialist workshops like these
Great workshop Thank you.
Newspaper + Boxes + Plastic Bags.
Very enjoyable-THANX
I wish that I could be part of future 3D shows with my fellow artistes
It was a great workshop. I didn't know anything much about clay but I learn a great deal-and I will continue to experiment to make my own shapes to paint. Thanks
Fantastico!
Excellent- I've got lots of ideas to go on with. I'll let you know how some of them turn out-I'm doing post-grad in paperclay -large sculptural pieces + impressed mosaic + found objects on surface
It was a great workshop. I didn't know anything much about clay but I learn a great deal-and I will continue to experiment to make my own shapes to paint. Thanks
Inspiriting-Thanks
I think it would have been better to start the hands on the first afternoon-reduce the frantic drying
Really enjoy the day & information given. Thank you
Great workshop, giving me lots of exciting possibilities & inspiration.
Excellent-great to try something new and opens up lots of ideas + possibilities for me thanks.
Thank-you for your 2 day workshop. It was great!!
Thank you for a wonderful workshop that really inspired me. One day I will complete the masterpiece
I will combine it with other forms of clay work and other materials
This workshop has changed my mind about paperclay, did not know it is soresiteil
Fabulous!! –need some practise now. Opens new possibilities(name not supplied)
Thanks very much-I can see lots of applications for my textile work
I found it very interesting and most enjoyable. What I liked also, was what questions were answered in a simplistic format & (unreadable word)
Not enough time to try it all inspiring
Very good & informative
Great opportunity to try a few things. Would have liked to get to dipping fabric earlier! Maybe on a warmer day.
I enjoyed the workshop
Very good & informative stimulating & offers great potential to incorporate in other fields
Really enjoy the day & information given. Thank you
Great workshop, very inspiring
2002
Excellent workshop & fun.
I had a great time!! I WILL use it in my work but it has also given me ideas of working with other media. Makes me realise I should be working more sculpturally.
[whole workshop too short]but this is all I could afford @ 3 half mornings gave me a good taste. You made the demonstrations optional so this suited -people. They could choose.vvvvv
It was fantastic, I want to know more. Are there any people on this side of the country who do workshops like this?
I think 4 days would have kept projects a little more simple (smaller?)
very starved for artistic information
appreciated the individual help. Loved it! Have wanted all year since I saw it done at last summer school. Thanks
I benefited (as an absolute beginner) greatly by doing 2 courses so might have felt the morning only was too short. Thank you Graham for introducing me to such an exciting medium
I think the class should be smaller (10)
I would like to do a workshop taking up the whole week either full time or all am's or all pm's.
lot's energy
Information can get off I/Net will suit me.
It was great. I can definitely see the benefits for younger chn & like how the work can be done in sections.
Excellent couple of days-very inspiring. Your style and enthusiasm is terrific Thank you
I enjoyed it-you have lots of info & skills to share. The whole workshop could have been longer
Thank you for your encouragement & patience
Thanks for helping me on my journey to more creativity
I would enjoy working on smaller sculptures-(I find the large pieces too heavy now!)
Very interesting and enjoyable. Would be very child-friendly, even for slow workers.
Umm….Tanks
Either 3 full days or 5 morning's-3 mornings too short
[The information sheet was too basic] but website pounds awesome. [I] wish to incorporate clay into my current sculptures. Than you
felt too rushed to me.
I feel the class could have been more time-as in more days as there wasn't a lot of time to finish things.
Had a wonderful 2 days. I have a new respect for paper am eager to keep learning this technique.
Great workshop, very worthwhile and lot's of great ideas
A fun introduction to paperclay. A great experience into developing my own creativeness. Thank you.
I learnt new things which is everything!
A whole day would be better
Fabulous
Enjoyed it immensely. Thanks a lot-loved it!
Loved the workshop. Always wanted to play with clay-too hard. This I feel I just want to get on with.
Great day, relaxing, informative, inspiring.
FANTASTIC! I thoroughly enjoyed today! Thanks!
Just Thanks! Such great possibilities to try!
Good fun. 2nd time I've come, learnt even more
appreciated access to extensive reference & offer of further advice
I would have like to have seen you working ie joins-techniques. But experimenting was good. It was very positive
Could have listened to more of above. Very starved for artistic information in Newman
Had a great time. Unfortunately I'm no artist but I enjoyed it anyway.
It was a wonderful opportunity-made me think & enjoyed something just for me. Thank you.
Thank you Graham for a great evening-it was very therapeutic.
Very interesting
Fabulous-thank you. Why is it, the more time one spends the more creative you get-almost too late!!?
Great workshop really enjoyable & informative.
2001
Fore me (hoddy ceramics) it was very good as I wish to branch out into my own forms & continue with under-glazing! (I'm one of those painters on clay) Many thanks!
More demonstration on make bowels, finishing off each piece
I enjoyed the class and feel I have gained a lot from it
A very informative and interesting workshop
Have only just started pottery 4 months ago
I didn't like ticking the mediocre sounding OK-I thought the workshop was outstanding & packed w/information.
Excellent
I found the workshop very interesting
Excellent! Thanks.
Great!
Very, very exciting concept and lots of fun.
Very practical and inspiring Lots of support and freedom to explore-great
Found it fantastic!
Just too short a time…but you made the most of what time we had….thanx

I raku fired my little chair that I made in your workshop. It came out extremely well... I am extremely excited about paper clay, as I can see things I have had in my head for years, I now will be able to accomplish (hopefully).
thanks very much Graham,
Great workshop. Lecturer very genuine.
loved the wshop

Learnt lots, Thanks Graham
Nope, was a great w/shop with heaps of info.
very interesting and surprising very lively presentation

Thoroughly enjoyed. Location great.

worthwhile day, thanks

Excellent Just what I needed(no name provided)
enjoyed it very well

I raku fired my little chair that I made in your workshop. It came out extremely well... I am extremely excited about paper clay, as I can see things I have had in my head for years, I now will be able to accomplish (hopefully).
thanks very much Graham,
Great workshop. Lecturer very genuine.
loved the wshop
list of workshops
* 2016 - 2017? my daughter Ashleigh kindly typed them in me.
*In 2021 begun emailing out post workshop surveys-which may explain the longer comments received?
