Our Beautiful Offspring: Winner: Ceramica Y Porcelain: Primer Premio:
My work was a more introspective work.
I felt a compulsion to make a work as tall as possible that spiralled upwards over my head.
By making it in ceramic material I wanted the work to convey a sense of fragility and possible disaster. Will the group of 3 delicate spirals hold together, or will one or all collapse and shatter on the hard ground? Given the proximity of Argentina to Chile and their recent earthquakes, more tension was created by making the sculpture's base less than than 50 cm wide.
As a recent "empty nester" there are feelings of emotional fragility as roles are realigned, daily patterns altered and nature of parent/child conversations/relationships change yet again.
The work exhibited was developed through a series of works and studio disasters over the preceding nine months. Initial attempts at construction were developed during an AIR at Perth College in early 2016.
